Brisbane is the capital city of Queensland with International and domestic air terminals, rail and highway hubs serving interstate travellers and extensive road, rail and river ferry transport throughout the city.
Bus and Rivercat ferry services provide transport to the university campus from the city, surrounding suburbs and rail stations. The Queensland government provides a comprehensive web site with integrated bus, rail and ferry services and trip planners. The web site address is: www.transinfo.qld.gov.au/. This will give you trip details, approximate travel times and costs.
Special notes for delegates arriving at Brisbane airport.
Conference check-in registration will be at Emmanuel College at 2:00pm on Monday 23 June and at the Queensland Bioscience Precinct at 8:00am on the following Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
For international travellers, allow from 60 to 90 minutes to clear immigration, baggage, customs and quarantine formalities.
Delegates arriving on Monday 23 June should travel directly to Emmanuel College. You will be able to book into your room, complete conference check-in registration and attend the welcome reception there.
There are no direct public transport or shuttle bus services from the airport to the conference venue at Queensland University.
Taxis will take 40 to 50 minutes depending on traffic conditions and perhaps longer during the morning peak hours. Expect the fare to be about AU$45 to AU$55. Taxis are probably the best option for 2 or more people travelling together, or with heavy luggage, given that public transport options involve several changes and considerable walking.
Public transport involves a combination of suburban train and bus journeys. There are rail stations at both the domestic and international terminals. Trains depart at around 20 minute intervals. Following are several options. Times and fares are from published timetables.
1. Train & bus to Queensland Universtiy Lakes Station (map ref. M8)
Train from Airport to South Bank station. fare $13.00
Walk 145m
Bus from Cultural Centre Busway to University Lakes Station, fare $2.70
Walk 500m to Emmanuel College via College Road and Sir William McGregor Drive
Total time 55 minutes plus final walk
NOTE: This involves only one transport change. However NO transport is available from the bus terminal to Emmanuel College. The bridge across the river to the UQ campus is our "Green Bridge" - it is restricted to buses, bicycles and pedestrians only.
2. Train and bus to UQ via Toowong
Train from Airport to Roma Street station, Change for train from Roma St. to Toowong. fare $15.30
Walk 150 m to bus stop on Benson Street
Bus to University of Queensland (map ref. F8). fare $2.30
Walk 250 m to Emmanuel College.
Total time 65-70 minutes plus final walk

Alternative 2a: Train from Airport to Toowong fare $15.50. Taxi from Toowong to Emmanuel College, fare $12 - $15.
